Hi Chelsea, Lynn here (Julie & Christine's sister), so happy to hear you are enjoying China! We are very partial to China as it is Madeleine's birthplace. In fact we picked her up in Hangzhou, which you'll have to visit as it is beautiful. Famous for West Lake, a large Buddhist Temple and a lakeside Hyatt with a fabulous Italian restaurant, not to mention 5 Starbucks, an Armani store and a Bentley dealership. Go figure. Make sure to visit the Shanghai museum next time you're there and M On The Bund is a gorgeous restaurant to see both the classic Western Architecture from Europe and the modern Pudong across the river at night - lighted Dinner Cruises going up river as the barges retreat downriver and the food is great, too. Try tofu or dofou as they say there - with veggies and/or noodles and rice, soy sauce for salt substitute. Oh and sunflower seeds were are favorite snack, not salty like here in the US. Been to China twice, 1995 and 2005, loved it, great people who'll seek you out to practice their English, fabulous food - be adventurous!
I'm really enjoying following your blog, Chelsea - your observations on the language and food, and really great photographs. I loved visiting China (especially Shanghai), but to be living there is a different level of experience that I envy you. My daughters are vegetarian (no meat or fish) but found plenty to eat and loved the food. To Lynn's suggestions I would add the French Concession, with Fuxing Park and the museum of the Communist party (all in that area) - the latter, especially, gave me really good insight into the country. Look forward to more posts on your adventures!
Tes photos sont remarquables ! pap
